Fans in Dublin went crazy last night as Ron Burgundy and his news team rocked up for the Premiere of the eagerly anticipated Anchorman 2.
The first film, Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy was a worldwide smash hit and developed a cult fan base.
The sequel is a certain box office hit and hundreds of eager Dubliners waited up to six hours at the Savoy cinema to catch a glimpse of the Channel 4 news team; Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Champ Kind and Brick Tamland.
Cast chatted with the crowd
The film stars certainly made it worth the wait, as they chatted to the crowd and press on the red carpet before entering the venue.
Will Ferrell, who plays the arrogant misguided Ron Burgundy, joked: “I’d love to sail around the entire country someday, and be rescued by the Irish Coastguard. If anyone wants to join us after the movie we’re all going to swim in the Liffey.”
Co-star Paul Rudd added a personal tribute to Ireland and its people saying: “I scattered my father’s ashes here, I’ve been coming here for decades, I consider it my home, I never like to stay away too long.”
He also praised Irish One Direction pop star Niall Horan after the two shared a couch on Saturday Night Live in the US last weekend, saying: “I’m crazy about Niall, that’s one cool kid.”
‘I’m kind of a big deal’
Before the exclusive film screening, the cast spent the afternoon touring the city and visiting local bars including a quick drink in Toners on Baggot Street. They will also appear on The Late Late Show this week and Ferrell joked he plans to take Ryan Tubridy’s hosting job in the future: “He doesn’t know yet, but I am.”
Ferrell, who famously tried to impress the beautiful Christina Applegate in the first film with the classic lines ‘I’m kind of a big deal’ and ‘I wanna be on you’, has spoken in the past about his love of Ireland.
His family are originally from Longford and he is proud of his Irish heritage says he enjoys spending time in Ireland whenever he can.
